There has been flying from Abbeyshrule since the 1950's.
There are 2 flying schools and maintenance facilities.
1. Aeroclub 2000 Ltd.
Chief flying instructor is Captain Angelo Cunningham (Contact John Logan secretary tel 044 93 55266).
This is a Registered Training Facility and offers full Class A PPL pilot training.
2. Ultraflight Microlight Training Centre
Microlights (3 axis) with Chief Flying Instructor John Ledwith
Ultraflight also offer maintenance on the Samba and Lambada 3 axis microlights which they import assemble and test.
Hangarage can be arranged.

Driving Directions:
From Mullingar, take the R393 through Ballincarrigy until you get to Castlewilder and turn left onto the R399. Take the next left (after 800meters) at Ratharney (Keenan Electrical) . Watch out for Airfield entrance on your left hand side, (See picture below.)
From the Sligo direction exit the N4 at Edgeworthstown taking the N55 south to Carrickboy, turn left onto the R393 and on for 7kms until Castlewilder and turn onto theR399 to Ratharney. At Ratharney (Keenan Electrical) turn left. Watch out for Airfield entrance on your left hand side, (See picture below.)
From Athlone on the N55. At Ballymahon, take the R392 (Mullingar Road) for about 3 miles, turn left at the signpost for “The Rustic Inn” . Carry on for another 3 miles, to Abbeyshrule village. Continue past the Rustic Inn for about 1mile and watch out for Airfield entrance on right hand side, (See picture below.)
